Live Online

Live Online courses are delivered through web-based software in real time. The instructor presents each class online using slides, audio, and chat. The students log-in online from home, the office or on-campus during the scheduled course meeting time. Instructors may hold class session in a computer lab until the students are comfortable with the software.

Requirement and Recommendations

What browser can I use?

Information Technology Department recommends the latest version of Firefox for running Blackboard learning system.  Other browser versions should be considered the “minimum” version.   However for the most feature rich experience we recommend Firefox and Chrome in that order.

What are the Internet access requirements?

Should have at least a 128K connection. Faster speeds are recommended for viewing media-rich content. Viewing video or Application Sharing during LIVE courses requires at least 128K. Wireless connections may be unstable and are not recommended.

Memory

Minimum of 32 MB of RAM. 128 MB or larger RAM is recommended for optimal audio and video performance.

What Operating System do I have to have?

Latest version of MS Windows operating system.

What kind of audio sound card do I need?

Full duplex sound card. Headset with microphone is recommended for full participation in LIVE courses.

What Firewall setting do I need?

Must be turned off or configured to accept LIVE applet. Disable or exit any firewall program before joining Live session.

What do I do about Pop-up Blockers?

Disable pop-up blocker or configure to allow pop-ups for the LIVE session.

What do I do about Instant Messaging?

Disable or exit any Instant Messaging service.

Do I need an Audio Program?

Disable or exit any audio-related programs such as CD player, Windows Media Player, and others during the LIVE session.

I can't hear my instructor, what should I do?

What do I do if I keep losing my (Internet) connection?

If your Internet connection is lost for any period of time you will be disconnected from your LIVE session. In order to re-enter your class, simply login again.

It is common for a wireless connection to boot you out of LIO.

How to play back prerecorded classes?

When one is interested in replaying a recorded session, simply login and enter the Room Archive you want.

Please Note: If you are using AOL as your Internet Service Provider, once you connect to the Internet please use Internet Explorer as your browser, not AOL's browser. To do this, minimize AOL, click on Window's Start button, and open Internet Explorer. AOL's browser includes a number of proprietary programs and can have a negative impact on the program that you are using.
